| It is a village with 713 inhabitants. Jaraicejo is situated surrounded by a ample dehesa boyal with fine examples of holm oaks. The bishopric from Plasencia chose this place to rest and retire, that is why we can visit the Episcopal Palace which dates back from the 16 th century.. It was connected by means of a Renaissance gallery to Nuestra Señora de la Asunción church, of Gothic - Renaissance style with influences of the Herreran style. By its side we can find the Inquisition house and the Rollo (where the convicted where executed). Another worth mentioning place in the village is the old bridge over Almonte River and which was built in the 15 th century . Festivities in Jaraicejo: On January, 17 th is San Antón, Carnival, in holly Week with its moving processions. On Easter Monday the romeria ( a religious festivity which takes place at a local shrine) for Nuestra Señora de los Hitos takes place. On August 14 th and 15 th Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is celebrated, and in the first week in October the festivities in honour of the patron saint, Nuestra Señora del Rosario , take place. |
